At Aviator Gear, every custom airplane model starts as a block of wood and is created from scratch just for you. Whether you are commissioning a military aircraft, commercial jet, or your personal airplane, our streamlined process guarantees your custom wooden airplane model will be a perfect replication of your plane.
The journey begins with the purchase of our Design Your Own product. Specify the aircraft type, registration or tail number, unique markings, and any other information that you have readily available. Don’t worry about all the details, we will guide you through the design process to collect everything we need to make your custom model.
Within 24 hours, our team will follow up with your order confirmation and the first draft of your custom order form, which will include reference photos and mockups for our artisans to use during production. You’ll have the opportunity to review everything carefully and request adjustments or provide additional photos to ensure accuracy. Production begins once you approve all details, so nothing moves forward until we get the information just right.
Your custom aircraft model is meticulously hand-carved and molded from kiln-dried mahogany wood. This premium hardwood is chosen for its long-term durability. After carving, the model enters a putty and primer stage to refine the shape and ensure exact proportions.
The painting process is entirely done by hand using a combination of airbrushing, stenciling, and custom in-house decals. This allows us to recreate even the smallest details, including panel lines, insignia, and nose art. Every step is handled by skilled craftsmen with years of experience.
Once your model is complete, we send you 6-8 high-resolution photos for final approval. This gives you the chance to confirm that every detail meets your expectations. After approval, a protective clear lacquer coat is applied to preserve the finish, enhance color depth, and protect your wooden airplane model for decades to come.
After the lacquer fully cures, your model is carefully packaged in a custom-designed container specific to your aircraft type. This ensures maximum protection during transit. Pro tip”: Keep the box to safeguard your model during future moves. Standard production orders ship weekly from our factory to our Florida distribution facility before final delivery to you.
